Our school is celebrating Black History Month.

In the library, Mrs. Gregory is spotlighting authors - Sharon Draper, Jacqueline Woodson, Kwame Alexander, and Christopher Paul Curtis. She is going to read excerpts from their works that will encourage the students to check out books from these authors. Mrs. Gregory has also provided black history information in the hallway by displaying the pages from the book, 28 Days - Moments in Black History That Changed the World.

Spotlight classes are currently working on a Flight Unit. Mrs. Montgomery and Ms. Plunk will teach the students about historical figures that correlate with the Flight Unit. The students will learn about Bessie Coleman, Katherine Johnson, Mae Jemison and The Tuskegee Airmen.

Our CBC class will be learning fun facts about Black History and practicing important skills geared towards this time of the year. They will also be spotlighting a black inventor, civil rights activist and actors that represent each letter.

4th Grade classes are learning through comprehension passages about black authors and historians in ELA. In Math the 4th grade students will be doing activities about black scientists and mathematicians. The 4th grade classes also dressed up like their chosen black historical figure and shared information about them to their classmates.

5th Grade classes will be watching a video each day about a black historical figure followed by a PowerPoint that will provide information about the person of the day.
