Morgan Tatum, Counselor

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Morgan Tatum and I am the new School Counselor at Olive Branch Intermediate School. I am so excited to be part of the Olive Branch Intermediate family; already it is so apparent how close-knit and welcoming the Olive Branch community is, I feel very lucky to be a part of it!

Some people like football, others are passionate about reading, but what I find fascinating is talking to, connecting with, and helping young people. I would like for the students here to think of my office as a warm and friendly place, where they are always welcome.  My office is also a safe haven- a place where they can get help if they feel confused or worried.

As a School Counselor, my primary responsibility is to promote the academic, career, and social/emotional development of all students.  I look forward to offering support to Olive Branch Intermediate students, staff, families, and community.

Services Provided

As the Counselor, I have the privilege to work with every student in the school. I plan on working with students at the classroom level, small group, as well as short-term individual counseling. I will also be meeting with parents, collaborating with teachers and staff, and consulting with community organizations to benefit and meet the needs of all OBI students.

-Classroom Guidance Lesson:  Lessons will be presented in the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) classroom to one 4th and 5th homeroom each day. Switch teachers will rotate weekly coming to SEL. Guidance lessons will address areas such as: team building, how to make friends, kindness, bullying, character traits, etc. Lessons will also be tailored to each homeroom’s specific needs.

-Group Counseling: Group counseling is provided for small groups of students experiencing similar concerns. These may include making and keeping friends, adjusting to a new school, anger management, coping with separation/divorce and/or loss, organizational skills, etc. The groups will range from 4-6 students and last for 6 to 8 sessions. The students in these groups can be referred by parents/guardians or by staff members.

-Individual Counseling: Short-term one-on-one counseling is available to all students. Students can make a self-referral or be referred by teachers/staff and/or parents/guardians. Confidentiality is respected.

*Confidentiality: Please note that all information discussed is confidential between me and your child, UNLESS they are planning on harming themselves, harming someone else, or someone is harming them.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or you would just like to meet me in person.  I can be reached by email from the contact form under my picture to the left, or by phone at 662-893-1221 ext. 106.

I am excited to be here and look forward to getting to know you and your child!

All the best,

Morgan Tatum
